The Tacugama Chimpanzee sanctuary is situated in the heart of the peninsular forrest conservation area. The primary purpose of the Tacugama chimpanzee sanctuary is to offer rehabillitation to orphaned chimpanzees or those rescued from captivity. The staff of the sanctuary also run educational programmes in local schools. Guided visits are available by arrangement.
